Your Excellency,
We are dismayed to hear that Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, 34, from Rasht City in Gilan Province, has been sentenced to death for "apostasy". According to the Court he can evade death only by a conversion to Islam. This sentence is a contradiction to Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which is also binding for the state of Iran:
(1) Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
(2) No one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice.
As a matter of urgency, we call on you to help bring about the immediate release of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani.

Sehr geehrter Herr Oberster Rechtsgelehrter
Wir sind darüber bestürzt, dass Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, 34, aus der Stadt Rasht in der Provinz Gilan, wegen angeblichen Glaubensabfalls zum Tode verurteilt wurde. Gemäss dem Gericht kann er nur mit einer Konversion zum Islam dem Tod entgehen. Dieses Urteil widerspricht Artikel 18 des Internationalen Pakts über bürgerliche und politische Rechte, der auch für den Iran bindend ist:
(1) Jedermann hat das Recht auf Religionsfreiheit. Dieses Recht umfasst die Freiheit, eine Religion eigener Wahl zu haben oder anzunehmen, und die Freiheit, seine Religion allein oder in Gemeinschaft mit anderen, öffentlich oder privat durch Gottesdienst, Beachtung religiöser Bräuche, Ausübung und Unterricht zu bekunden.
(2) Niemand darf durch Zwang in seinem Recht auf Religionsfreiheit eingeschränkt werden.
Wir bitten Sie dringend, sich dafür einzusetzen, dass Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani sofort freigelassen wird. |
